🔐 Encryption limits — honestly

Exactly what each mode protects… and what it does not:

Encrypted mode (e2e): the passphrase is never sent to us — encryption happens in your browser before upload; we store only the salt, IV and ciphertext. We cannot read the content even if we wanted to.
Comfort mode (unencrypted): content is stored as-is — fast and convenient, but not encrypted and readable by anyone with server access. Don’t put secrets in it.
Forgotten passphrase = encrypted content lost forever. No recovery — by us or anyone.
The workshop sees counters only (item counts) — content is unreachable there by construction, and encrypted content unreadable by design.
Encryption protects storage and transit to the server, not your device if compromised, nor a shared passphrase.

Is the service free?

Yes — every account gets 500 items free, with automatic expiry and share links.

What happens if I forget an encrypted item’s passphrase?

Its content is lost forever. We never receive or store the passphrase, so no recovery is possible — keep it somewhere safe.

Can the EL OUATINE team read my items?

Encrypted items: no — technically impossible without the passphrase. “Comfort mode” items: stored as-is, protected only by your account — don’t put anything sensitive in them.
